I come to Hai Cang often over the years, and this was the first time I dined here since the remodeling. Although it looks much nicer, it felt super cramped with how close all the round tables were to each other. For a party of 17, the service was very good. My go-to dishes: Special Tofu with Vegetable (Cai Xanh Xao Dau Hu Dac Biet) & Clam with Sate Sauce + basil (Nheu Xao Sate), super addicting sauce! Can't go wrong ordering the crab meat with asparagus soup (sup mang cua); hot & delicious. The Black Pepper Steak (Bo Xao Tieu Den) was saucy and savory. The Salt & Pepper Squid (Muc Rang Muoi) was pretty good as well. Was underwhelmed by the lobster with XO sauce and the Pan Fried Noodle with Seafood (Mi Chien Do Bien). The quality isn't the same as before. Overall I would still come back for the food.

WHAT I ORDERED: Crab Soup, Mapo Tofu, Shaken Beef, Seafood Crispy Egg Noodle, Salt and Pepper Squid, Salt and Pepper Tofu, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Garlic Lobster, Peking Duck, Vietnamese Coffee PARKING: Shared parking lot in strip mall INSIDE: Modern looking, great place that also has separate/private dining rooms for big parties, service was relatively quick and bathrooms are clean. THE FOODS/DRINKS: Everything was great! If anything, the shaken beef was a little too sweet for my liking and I wish the squid was fried a little longer. My favorite dishes are the salt and pepper tofu, garlic lobster, and the vietnamese coffee which was a nice caffeine boost.

Ever since their recent renovation and semi-staff overhaul during the pandemic, I think this version of Hai Cang is the best we've seen so far. Most businesses in general take a slow dive to the bottom, but they've managed to demonstrate improvement over time, which is no easy feat in a place as hyper competitive as Houston Asia-town. Hai Cang is the Sino-Viet pronunciation of 海港 i.e. seafood harbor and is emblematic of so many similar places across the neighborhood. The staff is multilingual, switching seamlessly between Vietnamese, Cantonese, Teochew, and Mandarin speaking customers. Of course, they also speak English. The interior has gone through a major facelift. It's way more bright in here and they've managed to make good use of the space which is super accommodating to groups, while being able to showcase their seafood tanks, TV programs, and even some very spacious private rooms. It's busy almost every night, but I think arriving slightly before prime hours is usually the best bet. Their daily selection of seafood is as fresh as they come. Every day there is something different on their fresh catch menu, from dungeness crab to turbo fish, it's always a really interesting to see what's available. My dining companions and I have been spoiled with all the different (massive) lobsters, abalone, oysters and large fish they've shown us over many visits, have been nothing but indulgent and expertly prepared. Even some of their classic Canto-fare dishes have been outstanding. Their version of yeung chow fried rice (揚州炒飯), shrimp with egg (蝦仁炒蛋), salt and pepper tofu / fish (椒鹽豆腐/魚片) are second to none in the area. I've been extremely pleased with a number of their dishes and I'm also impressed with the prices in comparison to other nearby places. It's not only more affordable, but the portions are substantial. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with how they've been going at it as of late and I hope they only continue to keep making big strides. This is truly a seafood lover's paradise.

We had an impromptu trip to Houston and hadn't seen our good friends, Judy and Danny, in a few years so we planned to meet up for dinner yesterday. They recommended the recently remodeled @haicangseafood_htx. Majority of us had Chrysanthemum Tea with dinner. We had shared the Combination Noodle, Salt & Pepper Pork Ribs, Chef's Special Tofu, Snow Pea Leaves, and Steamed Tilapia. Ah, we miss the great Chinese food in HTown! Fresh live fish is such a treat! It was great catching up too. The company was perfect! We definitely left very full and Judy and Danny had some leftovers to take home.

A friend of mine sent me this recommendation. I loved it, and so did my friend. The food tasted even better the next day. To be clear, we finished ALL the lobster at the restaurant..lol The restaurant is in a strip mall type parking lot in Chinatown on Bellaire, but nicely decorated on the inside. Upon entrance we were quickly seated, but our waiter was a bit slow to take our order. Our food came out quickly, but individually. I didn't mind since it was just two of us and it was fresh and hot. I will def be back. FYI: They don't serve alcohol. Ginger & Scallion Lobster 8.5/10 Salt & Pepper Lobster 9/10 Shrimp Lettuce Wrap 9/10 Chinese Brocolli 8.5/10 Shrimp Fried Rice 8/10

Wow I am so glad we stopped here. Most dishes were good, but some were extraordinary very flavorful. Just okay: Egg rolls Stir fried Rice Noodles with Seafood Good: Crab Meat with Fish Maw Soup Beef & Chinese Broccoli Yes: Duck with bao Extraordinary: Fried crab Fried Lobster - I have been wanting this every day since I last had it. So much flavor and not like your typical seafood restaurant where there is just butter.

I heard great things about Hai Cang Harbor Seafood Restaurant 海港 from many foodie friends. I can't resist my curiosity and asked my friend Cathy to check out. We came here for lunch during a weekday lunchtime. The restaurant was undergoing a renovation or construction or remodeling. Not sure. There was no sign explaining or what to expect. Since the restaurant was open, we were guided to the "new" side of restaurant. The rest of dining room was boarded up. Walking toward the back by the kitchen, I could see the backstage looking wall. I asked an employee but he didn't speak English. I don't speak Vietnamese. So, I don't know what the hell was going on. Not happy. Food was good, like others said. But the Hai Cang Sauce on the lobster was salty for me. Snow Pea Leaves with Garlic was very tender. XO Sauce Clay Pot was flavorful and goes well with steamed rice. We also ordered a pot of chrysanthemum tea. It was brewed and served from a steel pot. Yea tasted good. Overall, I had a good dining experience here. I'll be back when the construction is done.
